The Incredible Gifted Dream Machine

This is a dream come true. I never thought I would own a Hermes. And this is thanks to Sarah VanAllen. She offered this to me knowing I had been wanting one for quite some time. And she asked only that I cover the shipping. I couldn’t bear to do that to her, so I tripled the amount. I still got the better end of the deal–by FAR–and I very much consider this a generous gift, as it was intended. Thank you so much, Sarah!

So this was indeed my first time ever typing on a Hermes, and it took no time at all to fall in love. Even now, I find the words to describe the touch don’t come easily. There’s a heaviness at first, followed by a soft and smooth action. You can literally feel the quality of the machine in your finger tips.

During Typewriter Club LIVE, I said that this Hermes makes me feel like the search for the perfect typewriter is over. This has to be it. But at the same time, it is so much fun discovering and experiencing other typewriters. So in all honesty, the search must continue. That being said, I do think I am ready to part ways with some of the machines in my collection that need work. I find no joy in fixing machines, and most of them aren’t worth the added expense of paying for their repair. Few of them would be considered desirable by most people. Nevertheless, I will be sad to see them go.

But go they must.
